Smoker · Cultural Notes
How Chinese smokers talk about it — impressions and culture, not official claims.
How smokers describe it
Entry
A soft, lightly sweet Korean flue-cured note on the light-up — gentle and un-harsh, with the clean opening the bamboo-charcoal filter is there to give. Very little throat hit, as a 1 mg super slim intends.
Mid
A thin, smooth mid with a very light body — the ‘Soo’ line’s whole character is mildness. Smokers who want lightness call it clean and near-odourless; heavier smokers will find there is simply not much there.
Finish
Quiet and quick. The finish clears clean rather than lingering, and the narrow stick burns faster than a king size — honest trade-offs of a super slim this light.
the everyday of it
ESSE is the cigarette KT&G built the modern super-slim category around — launched in 1996, now roughly a third of the world’s super-slim sales across some ninety markets. The ‘Soo’ line is its mild, smooth everyday expression, and the green ‘pure bamboo’ edition carries the brand’s bamboo-activated carbon filter, the charcoal-in-the-filter idea KT&G has long paired with its green packs. It isn’t a premium showpiece; it is the quiet, ultra-light thin cigarette that a lot of Asian smokers reach for by habit.
gifting
A low gifting tier, honestly. A 1 mg super slim is a lightness choice, not a prestige present — ESSE’s gift weight sits in its premium gold lines, not here. Where ESSE Soo lands is routine and preference: an everyday ultra-light for someone who wants the thinnest, smoothest smoke, or an easy way for a curious smoker to try a Korean super slim.
Smoker terminology
Super slim — a narrow, thin-diameter cigarette — the format KT&G’s ESSE brand is built on, giving a lighter draw and faster burn than a king size.
Bamboo-activated carbon filter — a charcoal filter made with bamboo-derived activated carbon, used on ESSE’s green ‘bamboo’ packs to clean up the draw of an already very light smoke.
Telling the versions apart
ESSE runs a wide family — capsule, gold and flavoured editions among them. This is the mild ‘Soo’ style in its green ‘pure bamboo’ charcoal-filter edition, at the 1 mg ultra-low-tar level. The constant across the line is lightness and a clean draw rather than body.
Good to know
Is this a strong cigarette?
No — it is about as light as a cigarette gets. At roughly 1 mg tar and 0.1 mg nicotine in a super-slim stick, the throat hit is minimal. Heavy smokers often find a 1 mg super slim far too thin; that is the honest trade-off for its smoothness.
What does ‘pure bamboo’ mean?
It refers to the bamboo-activated carbon (charcoal) filter on ESSE’s green ‘bamboo’ packs. The charcoal is there to clean up the draw, not to add flavour — so the smoke stays mild and near-odourless rather than tasting of anything added.
How do I know it’s genuine?
Scan the pack barcode before opening the carton and check it returns a KT&G ESSE edition, and look for the Korean-language health warning and KT&G marks intact. ESSE is one of the most-copied Korean brands, which is why we source direct and verify every carton we ship.
Why do super slims burn so fast?
A narrower stick holds less tobacco and draws more air, so it burns quicker than a king size. That is normal for the format — part of why super slims read as lighter.
Is this a premium or gift cigarette?
No. A 1 mg super slim is an everyday ultra-light, not a status line. ESSE’s gift weight sits in its premium editions; ‘Soo’ is the mild, routine choice.
How does it ship?
Tracked, in plain unmarked outer packaging. Import duty and personal-import limits are your responsibility and vary by country; if a tracked parcel is seized, our reship terms apply.
