ESSE Himalaya

A superslim menthol crush-capsule cigarette from KT&G of Korea — the Change line’s cooled edition. Ultra-light at 2 mg tar on a narrow 84 mm stick: it smokes as mild flue-cured tobacco until you crush the bead, then flips to a crisp, icy ‘Himalayan’ menthol. Please note menthol and capsule cigarettes are banned or restricted in some markets — check your local rules before ordering.

Smoker · Cultural Notes

How Chinese smokers talk about it — impressions and culture, not official claims.

How smokers describe it

Capsule off

Mild and clean — a thin, faintly sweet flue-cured tobacco with almost no throat bite, as light as the 2 mg figure suggests. This is the quiet half of the stick.

Capsule crushed

Pinch the bead and cold menthol rushes in — a sharp, icy freshness rather than a sweet or herbal mint, the ‘Himalayan breeze’ the name promises. The switch is immediate and strong.

Body

Slim and low-delivery throughout. Light-smoke and menthol fans find it refreshing and easy; anyone used to a full king-size stick will read it as thin — body was never the brief.

the everyday of it

ESSE Himalaya came out of KT&G’s attempt to do something that had not been done — fit a flavour capsule inside a genuine superslim — and the Change line is where the company puts those capsule experiments. Himalaya is the cooled one: the name reaches for high, clean mountain air, and the cigarette answers it with an ice-cold menthol burst you release yourself. It first appeared in Korean duty-free in 2019 and then travelled out across Asia, carried as much by the slim, modern ESSE look as by the trick in the filter.

gifting

Not a formal gift in the Chinese sense — it is a Korean lifestyle slim, not a face-giving prestige carton. Where it fits is personal and casual: a light, fresh everyday smoke for someone who likes menthol and the slim ESSE style, or a travel-retail curiosity to bring back and share. Treat it as an easy daily or a novelty rather than a status present.

Smoker terminology

Crush-capsule — A flavour bead set in the filter; pinch it and it releases menthol, turning a plain tobacco draw into a cool one on demand.

Superslim — A notably narrow cigarette; ESSE’s signature format, lighter and thinner than a standard king.

Smell-Down — KT&G’s odour-reduction treatment, meant to cut the lingering smoke smell on hands and clothes.

Telling the versions apart

This is the Himalaya edition of the ESSE Change capsule line — a superslim 84 mm stick at 2 mg tar / 0.15 mg nicotine with a cool-menthol capsule. The wider ESSE family runs many non-capsule superslims at various low-tar levels; Himalaya is specifically the iced, capsule-equipped one.

Good to know

Is it a strong cigarette?

No — it is one of the lightest around. At 2 mg tar / 0.15 mg nicotine on a superslim stick it is very mild; full-flavour smokers usually find it thin, which is the honest trade-off for how light and fresh it is.

What does the capsule do?

There is a menthol bead in the filter. Smoke it as-is for a mild tobacco taste, or crush the bead for a burst of cold, icy menthol — the ‘Himalayan’ freshness the name is named for. You choose when to switch.

Can menthol/capsule cigarettes be sold where I am?

Not everywhere. Menthol and flavour-capsule cigarettes are banned or restricted in a number of markets — the EU since 2020, the UK, and others. Please check your own local rules before ordering; legality and import are your responsibility.

Is this a Chinese cigarette?

No. It is made by KT&G in South Korea and is an export ESSE pack, not a mainland-China SKU — lighter and slimmer than a Chinese flue-cured king, built around the menthol capsule.

How do I know it’s genuine?

Scan the barcode on the pack before opening the carton; it should return this exact ESSE Change Himalaya superslim, with the Korean pack markings, health warning and anti-counterfeit print intact.

How does it ship?

Tracked, in plain unmarked outer packaging. Import duty, flavour-cigarette rules and personal-import limits are your responsibility and vary by country; if a tracked parcel is seized, our reship terms apply.
