Japan Tobacco · vanilla-cased light · 5 mg
Caster Red 5mg (Caster 红5毫克)
You smoke Caster Red for the smell as much as the taste. The blend is cased with Madagascar vanilla, so it drinks sweet and creamy over a light Japanese tobacco, more soft dessert note than syrup. It is a normal king-size stick, twenty per pack, no capsule, no menthol. The 5 is the tar step, sitting mid-range for the brand. Japan stopped selling Caster back in 2016, so what you are buying is an import pack; any import duty is yours to settle by country, and we leave the pack code blank rather than invent one.

How it smokes
On your lips
Sweet vanilla and cream reach you before the flame ever does, soft and inviting rather than sharp or perfumed.
First puffs
Soft, round and bakery-like, with almost no edge or bite, so the aroma leads and the tobacco follows quietly.
The middle
Light tobacco sits beneath the aroma, mellow and never grassy, letting the vanilla stay the main event all the way through.
The finish
Clean and short, leaving a quiet sweet trace rather than ash or sourness on the breath.
Strength
Light at 5 mg; an easy, undemanding draw, but light is never safer, only milder on the palate.
Room note
Warm and dessert-like, closer to baking than to harsh tobacco, which is a large part of its charm.

The vanilla cigarette Japan stopped making
[‘Caster launched in Japan in 1982 and built its name on one idea: Madagascar vanilla worked into the casing. That soft, sweet aroma made it a cult pick rather than a mass seller, loved by people who wanted something gentler and more fragrant than a plain smoke.’, ‘It belonged to a Japanese taste for mild, aromatic cigarettes, and Caster was one of the most characterful of that crowd. The vanilla was a signature, not a cheap trick, which is why smokers still talk about it years later.’, ‘Japan Tobacco pulled the brand from its home shelves in November 2016. The packs that circulate now move through Asian and import routes, which is how one reaches you here; same vanilla idea, just no longer a Japanese-domestic product on a local shelf.’]
Good to know
Does it actually taste of vanilla, or is that just the name?
It really does. The casing is vanilla from Madagascar, so you get a clear creamy sweetness on the lips and in the smell, sitting on top of a light tobacco. If sweet aromatics are not your thing, this one will not win you over.
Is 5 mg weak enough to count as a safer option?
No. The 5 refers to machine-measured tar and to how light it draws, not to risk. Light packs are ventilated and real smoking habits raise the actual intake, so treat it as a flavour choice, not a safety one.
Will the vanilla taste cheap or artificial?
It should not. The whole reason the brand earned a following is that the vanilla reads as integrated and soft rather than syrupy, more a dessert note than a sauce. A pack that smells sharply chemical is a sign it has aged badly or is not stored well, not how the blend is meant to be.
Why does Japan not sell this anymore, and is what I’m buying still Caster?
Japan Tobacco discontinued it at home in 2016. The packs sold cross-border now come through Asian and import routes; they are the Caster blend, but they are not current Japanese-domestic stock, which is also why we do not quote a verified barcode.
