Suyan Soft Gold Sand, the “Grand Su” (苏烟 软金砂)

Suyan Soft Gold Sand (苏烟 软金砂)

Say hello to the Grand Su. This is the full-size soft pack from Jiangsu China Tobacco’s top line, not a slim and not a hard box. You get twenty king-size 84 mm sticks per pack, flue-cured leaf, printed at 11 mg tar and 1.0 mg nicotine. Ten packs to a carton, two hundred sticks. Smoke it slow. It rewards a relaxed pace, a coffee, an after-dinner moment. It suits someone who wants a mellow, grown-up smoke rather than a hard jolt. Think smooth, dry, toasted, calm. Not sweet, not sharp. Want to be sure it’s the real soft Gold Sand? Look for the soft wrapper, the full length, and the pack code 6901028114448.

The details

Why they call it the big Su

[“Suyan arrived as Jiangsu’s premium statement, and this soft pack has been the headline act since 2001. People started calling it the Grand Su to set it apart from the slimmer and boxed versions that came later. In 2002 it was picked as a provincial reception smoke, and for years it carried a counter price around 48 RMB a pack back home, which tells you the tier it plays in.”, ‘The soft wrapper is the point. In China a soft pack reads as the more traditional, more generous gift, so this format, not the hard box, became the one you passed to a guest. That heritage is baked into the taste too: Jiangsu built its name on a mellow, rounded style, and the Grand Su is the clearest example of it you can buy.’, ‘Over the years the Suyan name spread across a whole shelf: slim versions, a hard box, special runs, cheaper spin-offs. That is exactly why the nickname stuck. Ask for the big Su at home and nobody hands you a slim. You get this one. So when you order from abroad, you are reaching for the original, the full-length soft pack that built the reputation, not a lookalike riding the same badge.’, ‘Give it the setting it was made for. This is not a cigarette to rush between meetings. It shines slow, with something warm in the cup, when you actually have a minute. Treat it that way and the mellow character opens up. Rush it and you miss the point.’]
