Zhejiang flue-cured · understated · short format
Liqun Night West Lake
The short-format (74 mm) soft-pack everyday edition of Liqun’s mellow, understated house style — a 10 mg flue-cured smoke from Hangzhou, themed on West Lake by night. Light where Marlboro Red is heavy; closer to a Gold / lights profile, clean and faintly sweet, in a stubbier stick pitched at ‘small body, big energy’. Some smokers find it full enough to smoke like a normal stick; others find it quick and light. We write it honestly either way.

Smoker · Cultural Notes
How Chinese smokers talk about it — impressions and culture, not official claims.
How smokers describe it
Entry
A faintly sharp first puff that settles fast into a pure, fresh, clean opening — soft down the throat with little bite, a light, low-stimulus start typical of a 10 mg flue-cured and close to the brand’s Soft Sunshine character.
Mid
The flue-cured base comes forward, mellow and tidy, with a faint sweetness and a fine-grained smoke. This is where the split begins: better reports call it surprisingly full for a short stick, smoked at the same pace as a normal one; others find it light and a touch flat, without the body to carry a long session.
Finish
Clean and quiet, with little off-note — the brand’s restrained house signature. The honest catch is the short format: it burns fast, and some smokers feel the satisfaction tails off before they want it to. We’d rather you knew that going in than oversell it.
the everyday of it
Liqun is Hangzhou’s own brand, and Night West Lake wears the city on its sleeve — the theme is the night-time scenery of West Lake, the lake the factory sits beside. The styling is quieter and more modern than the classic red Liqun: a dark brown and cream soft pack pitched at an understated, city-luxury idea rather than the old-school hard box. The brand calls it ‘small body, big energy’ — a shorter stick that still carries the family’s mellow, understated (dan ya) character. It isn’t a prestige line and never pretended to be; it’s the tidy, everyday one, the quiet other side of the Liqun name.
gifting
A modest gifting tier, honestly. The dark brown and cream soft pack and the West Lake theme make it a tasteful, considered-looking everyday carton — fine for casual courtesies, hosting friends or a low-key gesture among people who already like the Liqun style. But it is a value-tier short-format smoke, not a high-end face-giving present; for a wedding, a boss or a weighty occasion you would reach well higher up the shelf. Where it truly belongs is daily routine and a little local Hangzhou pride — or, for an overseas smoker, an inexpensive way to taste Liqun’s understated style in a short stick.
Smoker terminology
Dan ya — ‘mellow and understated’ — the light, restrained aroma style Liqun is known for across Zhejiang.
Duan zhi — ‘short stick’ — a full-diameter cigarette made shorter than a standard king, not the thin slim (xi zhi) format.
Telling the versions apart
Mind the format: this is the regular-diameter short (74 mm) soft pack at 10 mg tar. Liqun also makes a separate slim (xi zhi) Night West Lake with its own barcode, a lower 5 mg tar and a higher price — so check you’re getting the short soft-pack version you remember, not the slim one. The 10 mg tar / 0.9 mg nicotine blend is the constant for this version.
Good to know
Is this a strong cigarette?
No. At 10 mg tar / 0.9 mg nicotine in a short stick it’s a light, lights-style smoke. Heavy smokers often find it light and quick — that’s the honest trade-off for its smoothness and the short format.
Why do reviews disagree so much?
Opinions genuinely split. The better reports say the smoke is full enough to smoke like a normal stick despite being short; critics find it light, fast-burning and only fair value. We’d rather tell you than oversell it.
What does it actually taste like?
A faintly sharp first puff that settles into a pure, fresh, clean flue-cured smoke — soft down the throat, mellow and tidy in the middle with a faint sweetness, and a quiet, clean finish. The whole thing is light and restrained rather than bold or warm, close in character to the brand’s Soft Sunshine.
Why is the cigarette shorter than usual?
It’s a short-format (duan zhi) cigarette — full diameter but a stubbier 74 mm stick, not the thin slim format. The brand pitches it as ‘small body, big energy’; the practical effect is a quicker smoke.
How do I know it’s genuine?
Scan the small-pack barcode 6901028121514 before opening the carton — it should return this exact short soft-pack edition, with the anti-counterfeit mark and the health warning intact.
Is this the slim version?
No. This is the regular-diameter short (74 mm) soft pack at 10 mg tar. The slim (xi zhi) Night West Lake is a different product with its own barcode and a lower 5 mg tar — don’t confuse the two.
How does it ship?
Tracked, in plain unmarked outer packaging with nothing on the box to signal the contents. Import duty and personal-import limits are your responsibility and vary by country, so check your local allowance before ordering a carton; if a tracked parcel is seized in transit, our reship terms apply.
